Actually tiles without enough tile glue underneath can be hollow and impact can break them Just out of experience And it's easy to replace individual tiles, as long as you have the same grout

it sounds like the tiles were not fitted correctly if so many were cracked. oh you can install floor tiles incorrectly and leave voids under the tile that means it cracks and breaks very easily. correctly fitted floor tiles are very hard to break, even when hitting them with a hammer. it is very easy to tell if tiles are fitted very shoddily and that is by lifting the tiles. a well fitted tile will not have any voids under it, and yes you do get installers who will dot and dab floor tiles.

a rogue tiler could use inferior cement which deteriorates leaving a void, if one tile cracks and causes more to crack, bear in mind the cement between gives a buffer protection, then i think the tiles have not been installed correctly, the engineer wouldn't move a tumble dryer for no reason, utility rooms are general small, that is why it was moved, anyone quoting for a repair will not say i can fix it for £200 they want to replace the whole floor so they get work for a whole day or more, and not 1 hour

Didn’t have the “know how” to install it right ? Sounds like her floor tiles might not be on floor right to start with but installers should have not installed it and changed or delivery only.

Just refuse to pay and let them sue you. You can then adduce evidence that you withdrew the money, they will need to prove their case. They will be lying and risk perjury if they lie on oath. Any judge will see through it. Why on earth would anyone have withdrawn exactly the same amount of cash that day unless it was to pay?
